The Story Behind PI Stone: From Prototype to App Store Approval
20th July 2026
Dive into the fascinating world of PI Stone, a classic block puzzle game with a modern twist! Drag colorful block shapes of different sizes onto the board, clear complete rows and columns to empty them, and rack up as many points as possible along the way. The smarter you plan, the longer you survive — and the higher your high score climbs.
From Prototype to App Store Approval
Every good app starts with a problem that needs solving. For PI Stone Puzzle Game, it was exactly that.
The trigger: frustration with gaming
It all started with hours of gaming sessions on Android. We tried out countless block puzzle games — and kept having the same feeling: after a few rounds, the excitement was gone. The games were fine for a quick session on the go, but something crucial was missing: progression.
No leveling system to grow with. No rewards worth earning. No reason to come back every day beyond the pure puzzle mechanic itself. We sat together in the evenings, controller or smartphone in hand, and asked ourselves: "Why hasn't anyone built this yet?"
The idea takes shape
That question turned into a sketch on a notepad. The sketch turned into a concept. The core idea was clear early on: we wanted to keep the classic, addictive principle of block puzzles on an 8×8 grid — but combine it with real progression, the kind you'd usually find in RPGs or mobile games with battle-pass systems.
The first nights working on the prototype were full of trial and error. What does an XP system feel like that doesn't feel bolted on? How do you reward players meaningfully without it feeling like artificial grinding? We experimented with different block shapes, tested various grid sizes, and scrapped more than one concept along the way.

From idea to finished feature set
After many test rounds with friends and acquaintances, what makes PI Stone what it is today started to take shape:
Level progression that motivates
We built a system with 99 levels, where every level-up feels genuinely rewarding — not an empty numbers game, but real, visible progress.
Unlockable customization instead of one-size-fits-all
Over 55 customization options came from the desire for every player's board to feel personal. 10 block styles, 6 block shapes, and 39 backgrounds — mix and match freely so every player can design their own PI Stone.
The combo system as the heart of the game
It mattered to us that good play would actually pay off. So we built a combo bar that fills through clever moves and rewards players with fresh blocks.
Special blocks for the wow factor
Bomb, Lightning, and Mega Block were the finishing touch. We wanted to create moments where the entire board explodes in a spectacular chain reaction — that brief goosebumps feeling while playing.
Sound and visuals for immersion
20 unlockable music tracks and elaborate visual effects like sparkling particle dust and glowing line previews rounded out the experience.
Competition for those who want more
With Apple Games integration and a global leaderboard, we were finally able to build the thing we'd missed most ourselves: the drive to measure up against others.
From prototype to release
What began as a moment of frustration while gaming on Android was refined, tested, and polished over months — until Apple officially approved the game after extensive review. Today, PI Stone Puzzle Game is available in 175 countries.
For us, this is more than just an app launch. It's proof that a simple "surely someone could do this better" can turn into a game that delivers exactly what we ourselves had been missing.
